The 1983 Science article by Turco, Toon,Ackerman, Pollack & Sagan used a 1- dimensional model to predict instantaneous global freezing in response to optical depths of 20- a roughly millionfold reduction in solar surface heating of the Earth lasting for , literally, 40 days and forty nights. In 2007 and 2008 Alan Robock et al. programmed the parameters used in the TTAPS article into a modern 3-D GCM.In this graph, the 2007 results are suoerimposed directly on the orginal 1983 TTAPS Science figure
